Operational Safety
ENEC has invested hundreds of thousands of man-hours in documenting the safety of the operations and maintenance of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, and its adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality and security.
As part of this work, ENEC filed the Operating License Application (OLA) for Barakah Units 1 and 2 with FANR, the UAE regulatory authority, in March 2015. ENEC also filed the Operating License Application (OLA) on behalf of ENEC Operations for Barakah Units 3 and 4 with FANR in March 2017.
The Operating Licenses were issued by FANR to ENEC Operations as follows:
Unit 1: February 2020
Unit 2: March 2021
Unit 3: June 2022
Unit 4: November 2023
Another critical part of our safety culture is ensuring all of our operations team are regularly trained at our state-of -the-art Simulator Training Center (STC). The STC is a 7,000 square meter facility, housing two of the world’s most advanced, full scope, digital training simulators.. The Operator Training Center (OTC) also provides further simulators and classrooms to provide advanced training and education for the operations teams.
Individuals who are working toward their certification to operate the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant gain hands-on experience by interfacing with one of two exact replicas of the Main Control Room. Trainees are exposed to a series of virtual scenarios that prepare them to play a key role in delivering safe, clean nuclear energy to the UAE.
