The ENEC Operations is a Private Joint Stock Company (PJSC) co-owned by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) (82%) and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) (18%).
ENEC Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC)
Since its inception in 2009, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) was mandated by the UAE Government to deliver the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program and develop the cornerstone of the UAE Program; the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant - the first multi-operational nuclear energy plant in the Arab World.
ENEC has delivered on part of its mission in developing nuclear energy as a new clean source of electricity in the UAE, in order to diversify the UAE’s energy portfolio to ensure energy security and achieve the goals of Net Zero 2050. ENEC’s responsibilities include the design, construction and ownership of the UAE’s first nuclear energy plant.
ENEC’s other responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the Abu Dhabi and Federal governments to ensure that the peaceful nuclear energy program is aligned with the industrial infrastructure plans of the UAE.
- Developing the human resource capacity for the nuclear energy program in coordination with the educational sector in the UAE.
- Effectively engaging with the UAE community to raise awareness and understanding about the program and the role of nuclear energy in the nation’s energy portfolio.
ENEC also serves as the investment arm of ADQ, making strategic investments in the nuclear sector, both domestically and internationally.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)
The Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is the largest electric utility in South Korea responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and the development of electric power projects including nuclear power, wind power and coal.
It is known for its strong research abilities, technological development, overseas businesses, investment and corporate social responsibility practices.
The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) recognizes KEPCO as a leader in safety, plant reliability and efficiency. With more than 40 years of experience in nuclear technology and nuclear power plant operations, KEPCO has a strong record for developing nuclear power plants that meet stringent industry quality standards.
