A delegation from the UAE National Defense College witnessed the progress of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, during a visit to the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra Region of Abu Dhabi. The visiting delegation were shown the latest developments in the construction of the plant and the ongoing preparations for the operation of the nation’s first nuclear energy reactor.

As part of the visit, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and its Joint Venture subsidiary companies, Nawah Energy Company and Barakah One Company, briefed the delegates on the strategic role of nuclear energy in the UAE and its contribution to diversifying the nation’s energy mix with sustainable energy sources.  The delegation also observed the progress made in developing UAE Nationals as the leaders of the Program and operators of the plant, directly supporting the economic and social growth of the UAE.

Last month, ENEC announced the completion of construction work on Barakah Unit 1, with Unit 2 currently at 92%, Unit 3 at over 82%, Unit 4 at over 69%, and a total completion percentage of 88%. All four Units will deliver clean, efficient and reliable electricity to the UAE’s power grid, and will prevent the release of up to 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to removing 3.2 million sedan cars from the roads.
