Abu Dhabi to Host International Nuclear Law Congress

- ENEC sponsors the 23rd Nuclear Inter Jura Congress to showcase the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program

The United Arab Emirates is hosting the 23rd Nuclear Inter Jura Congress in Abu Dhabi from 4 to 8 November 2018. The Congress, which is being held in the Middle East for the first time, is organized by the International Nuclear Law Association (INLA) in partnership with local and international sponsors including the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).

The congress brings together legal specialists, government representatives, executives and academics from the international nuclear energy industry to discuss a wide range of topics including international conventions, nuclear liability, the nuclear fuel cycle, new nuclear energy plant construction, sustainable development and international safeguard regimes.

During the opening ceremony of the congress, the attendees will be updated on the latest developments of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program and showcase its significance and contribution to the international nuclear energy industry.

“The UAE’s partnership with International Nuclear Law Association to host this important event is a reflection of our commitment to working together with the international community to support the growth and development of the peaceful nuclear energy industry, in line with the objectives of Abu Dhabi Plan and UAE Centennial 2071,” said His Excellency Ambassador Hamad Alkaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Atomic Energy Agency and UAE Special Representative for International Nuclear Cooperation . “Legal and regulatory frameworks play a significant role in the implementation of peaceful nuclear energy programs, and we look forward to sharing our experiences with other global leaders as well as discussing the latest industry trends.”

The UAE is pursuing a peaceful nuclear energy program that upholds the highest standards of safety, security, non-proliferation and operational transparency. The UAE has received international praise for its policy on Nuclear Energy released in April 2008, which outlined a series of commitments in the development of its peaceful nuclear energy program.

The non-profit International Nuclear Law Association was founded in 1970 to strengthen relations among lawyers involved with nuclear law, facilitate research and development, and promote cooperation in nuclear liability. The INLA has more 650 members around the world, including a number of Emirati legal experts.
