Nawah Energy Company, the operations and maintenance subsidiary of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), is pleased to confirm that it has received the Operating License for Unit 4 of Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the UAE’s independent nuclear regulator. This is the 4th and final unit at the plant.

The Operating License was approved by the FANR Board of Directors on 17 November 2023, following rigorous assessments and independent reviews of Nawah’s operational readiness, including the successful completion of a Pre-start Up Review (PSUR) by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

The Operations team of Nawah will soon start loading the fuel assemblies into the reactor of Unit 4, in preparation for start-up of the Unit in the coming months.

To date, FANR has conducted over 500 independent inspections since the start of the development of the Barakah Plant. These reviews were conducted alongside more than 44 assessments and peer reviews by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and WANO.
